New room

I was excited about the "real " work starting, the technicians from Khartoum never arrived. We  started anyway without them but then  two hammer drills broke on Friday. Those guys from Khartoum will bring some, so stand-by for it. Fortunately the rest of installations and modifications are progressing at good pace, even I had to leave my room earlier (my house will no longer be a residence but offices). Yesterday was physically though, I cleaned my "old" room (what is the cleaning lady doing during the week?), as soon as I finished I was informed "you have to move this weekend". Only breakfast and started to move almost up to 4 pm, I have taken a recently-released room from a friend to leave the mission, but anyway more than two days in Juba make a difference in terms of cumulated dust, I have to clean then my "new" room, find my way, move furniture, clean, clean, move things: Then it was a disjunctive: Hash Harriers (for my first try) or Volleyball.  It rained yesterday during the day, peopel started to come for volley, as I’m now one of the "organizers" i’ve felt like I had to saty to put everything together, then it was too late for "the hash" and I played volley, new people always coming, it was fun. After this a small gathering (tried to get some food, I was starving) and there was a party going somewhere. "The englishman" was in the mood for going so we gave it a try, new place far from the usual ones, paarty up to the curfew (2 am), good music and free drinks, i don’t drink a lot, specially when I haven’t eaten. Danced (alone) for long time , at the end I was exhausted. I think i have lost weight (more) yesterday alone.

Today, continuation of organizing my new room "setup", some thing s to buy, came to the office because there were problems with my network and people wanted to work….

This afternoon, volley again, have to fix the net…..

Looks like you do nothing but at the end you are tired…

And the soul is also tired……strong feelings

in the mood

The work helps you to find yourself, specially when it gets interesting like now and when you love it. Finally the project of setting up the network and all the rest of setup for the offices is taking shape, lot of things to do and plan, documents to generate, thinks to physically move and load, heat, sweat, dust, even if its a t our nice installations, could have been harder at other organization’s environments here in Juba where resources are less. Don’t have to complain.
Working late, I wasn’t in the mood for fitness today, some cramps in the calfs also contributed to take better a rest these two days. Inshallah, I’ll run tomorrow, trying to get back to "good-ol-times" running 4 min /km (it’s not that good anyway, I know), now with broken ACL ligament is already something.

The Census in Sudan is coming, the 15th. Maybe we’ll have some days off, specially my Sudanese colleagues, hopefully only a small delay will be introduced.

Going to Khartoum in two weeks, re-encounter with the swimming pool. The spinning byke is "under repair", haven’t mentioned that I’m not allowed to take a real bicycle because of the security rules.

Enough for tonight.

Getting back in shape, ……..

Restart

Restart, re-create, re-consider, re-discover yourself. As it’s impossible to get back in time, then make a break, try to forget, try to erase and start again…..with some addtional knowledge and experience the second time should be better.

In english

With some time, will write in English. Sorry for those not used to read on Shakespeare’s language.

Time runs. In April already. Today’s April fool’s day, for those with Anglo-Saxon traditions. I wasn’t aware of it. Today one of the local sudanese employees come to me with this envelope addressed to "Head of IT" with a strange sender acronym ,etc. I was suspicious and it was actually a gag. Then the same one call me on the phone simulating a lady’s voice. Nice surprise to have this sense of humor and feel more close to the "locals" as i was complaining in a previous post.

Today’s is also my parents wedding anniversary (nothing related to above, in Colombia we don’t use April fools luckily) . Thanks to Internet and on-line shopping I manage to send flowers from here in Sudan to Cali in Colombia.

The day has been productive, tomorrow i hope it will be the same. I feel hot, I’m sweating, the small flu still there, maybe it’s that, it rained a bit this afternoon. Mosquitoes coming  with the rain, so I’m covered with repellent.

Will be good if finally they release to Ingrid Betancourt, nobody deserves deprivation of freedom without justification under the accepted laws. Will be a good point for ICRC in Colombia if they are the facilitators.

Otherwise, missing company, loneliness feelings came to flirt from time to time.

Got to get my mind busy.

I hope the pictures from Tunis are well appreciated.

Got to go, maybe some grapefruit hunting in the shops

Cheers…….

Juba

Luego sigo……..
